Rexburg police crack down on drug use

Rexburg police are on a mission to get the word out about drug and alcohol abuse.

They will be holding a drug and alcohol awareness seminar Thursday at 6:30 p.m., at the Romance Theater in Rexburg.

The goal is to educate parents and adults about a growing problem in the city of Rexburg.

Rexburg is home to Brigham Young University–Idaho. According to Rexburg.org, the population sits at 30,000 and is expected to grow.

“Any adult in the community that needs to know what the current drug trends are in the community should attend,” said Rexburg Cpl. Eric Wheeler

Wheeler also said police have a drug take back box located in police headquarters in Rexburg. For the safe disposal of any prescription drugs that are not being used such as expired prescriptions.

“People keep their medication at their house and available for somebody to steal and that’s easy access to teens,” said Wheeler.

Rexburg police have posted fliers around Main Street to inform the public about the seminar.

Wheeler said the drugs mostly commonly being used and abused are alcohol and prescription drugs.

Along with drugs like methamphetamine and heroin.
