Museum expands with a cafe

The Idaho Potato Museum in Blackfoot attracts thousands of visitors from across the globe yearly.

The museum was built in 1912 and has had renovations in order to keep up the building.

Visitors walk through the museum and have the chance to learn about the rich agricultural history that Idaho has to offer.

Executive Director Tish Dahmen, said they have gotten many visitors who request an Idahoan potato at the end of their tour.

“We have a lot of things that are new to the museum right now. Most important thing is we are constructing a caf. It’s going on the south side of the building,” Dahmen said.

Dahmen said it’s a $50,000 renovation and will hopefully attract more visitors.

“Truly be an economic engine for this area. There are others in Blackfoot that serve that purpose as well, I think for retail recreation and tourism we can really bring people in,” Dahmen said.

The cafe will offer visitors fresh baked potato chips, a potato bar with a variety of toppings and refreshments.

Dahmen said, “We will need to hire more people and we are looking into local vendors.
