Therapeutic riding program preparing for another round of classes
A local therapy program using horses to help people with special needs is getting ready for another round of classes.
The Innovative Therapeutic Riding Program has been working with disabled, elderly and youth at risk since 2011 in Idaho Falls. The goal is to help people reach their highest potential through therapeutic riding.
“Whether it’s something little, like reaching for that stuffed animal that they weren’t able to reach before, or just making a movement they were never able to reach before,” Kamiey Griffin, development director for the program, said. “I just remember a woman with MS, specifically, and talking to her changed my life. And that’s what got me involved in these programs, and she told me this was her freedom. This was the only time she felt free.”
