Firefighters save Driggs home from early morning fire

A Driggs family is living to tell a miraculous survival story after their basement caught on fire- putting the house in a cloud of smoke.

“We were just so thankful,” said Eric Reiser, the father of the family who managed to get out of their house before things got dangerous.

“Our wonderful 14 year old daughter heard the carbon monoxide detector go off and had thepeaceof mind to not just go out but get her 3 younger siblings and grabbed them,” said Reiser.

The family says “we’re very blessed that everyone’s safe the rest of it can be replaced,”said Eric Reiser.

Around one this morning, their oldest daughter Lexi heard a noise.
“We thought it was just like games falling or someone knocked something over,” said Lexi. “Icould see the sparks coming off the laptop from my room so that just got me up and moving.”

Lexi heard the carbon monoxide/smokealarm and got her siblings out of the basement- which is now completely charred. The family believed the cause of the fire was a laptop in the basement.

“We walked about half way down the stairs and it’s just black I mean everything,”said Eric Reiser after going back to the house when firefighters put it out. The family says they’re extremely grateful for the firefighters who made it to the scene in about 10 minutes after calling for emergency services.

This year has been very difficult for the Reiser family. About five months ago,Eric, the father had his leg amputated. His leg had multiple surgeries after a car accident twenty years ago and until recently decided to remove his leg.

The Reisers are currently staying with neighbors along their block. The family is now figuring out what to do next as the mother, Rachel runs a pre school out of the damaged basement.
