Keeping it local with the farmers market
The Idaho Falls farmer’s market was in full swing Saturday, a packed crowd of shoppers made their way down the stretch of vendors.
The market is located along the greenbelt of Idaho Falls in the KeyBank parking lot.
Musical entertainment filled the air as shoppers browsed vendors for fresh produce, nursery items, specialty foods, meats, breads, pastries and handmade crafts.
One vendor travels from Utah to Idaho Falls every Saturday to sale her baked goods.
Linda Ramirez who’s been working for Volkers Bakery for almost 12 years is on a first-name basis with her customers. However, Ramirez said Volker Bakery has proudly been around for 20 years.
“This is all European Artisan bread the real stuff not soaked in chemicals,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez said it takes a lot of work to get her baked goods to her loyal customers.
“We are here early in the morning until late at night, we use fresh herbs,” Ramirez said.
Local shopper Cherie Anderson said she couldn’t wait for the farmers market to open.
“I come down and buy my herbs so I can start my little herb garden early,” Anderson said.
Anderson said she supports local farmers and enjoys connecting with her friends and family.
“I’d much rather buy local home grown. I support the community 100 percent,” Anderson said.
The BYU-Idaho students come every year, their Horticulture program has students grow their own vegetables and the floral students make their own arrangements.
School vendor Kailee Boren said she loves getting involved with community and showing off what her school can do.
“We love it, it’s super fun and it’s great to interact with the community and show them what the school’s about,” Boren said.
Some of the vendors shoppers will catch there are: Blackfoot Gardens, Brady’s Plant Ranch, Cocina Latina, and Cabin Kitchen to name a few.
