White pleads guilty to injuring own child
Francis Ernest White IV was arrested in early May for seriously injuring his own child.
According to White’s own admission in court on Thursday, he admitted to being intoxicated and arguing with his girlfriend. White claimed he stubbed his toe on a skateboard, got angry and threw the skateboard, which hit his one-year-old daughter in the head as she was coming around a corner.
White was charged with one count of felony injury to a child and one count enhancement for infliction of bodily injury.
In court Thursday, White reached a plea agreement with the state. White pleaded guilty to the felony charge, in exchange for the state dismissing the enhancement charge.
While in court, White also requested to be released on probation until trial.
Judge Stephen Dunn accepted White’s plea, but denied his request for probation. He also refused to lower the $250,000 bond.
White will be back in court on Aug. 11 for sentencing.
White could be facing a maximum of 10 years and a $50,000 fine.
