Idaho Falls School District 91 welcomes 60 new teachers

A surge of new teachers is coming to one of our local school districts. Idaho Falls School District 91 is welcoming more than 60 new teachers this year, and some of them are brand-new to teaching.

“One of my biggest fears was kind of going in like, ‘OK, I don’t know what to do!’ but this is getting us prepared. Taking us through why we use the curriculum and why it’s helpful, and mostly how we can help each other but help the students to succeed,” said Dora Erickson Elementary sixth-grade teacher Jessica Browning about her very first year teaching.

Wednesday, District 91 held training to help these new teachers better understand how the district operates. Workshops were held at Taylorview Middle School, and that’s where the teachers learned the district’s curriculum and how to provide fun and exciting tools for the students.

“I’m just super-impressed with the way that the district is run. I’m impressed with the leadership. All of the schools I was able to visit, I loved the culture and the atmosphere. And so, I just knew that’s where I wanted to be,” said Elise Hansen, a brand-new teacher gearing up for teaching sixth-grade at Sunnyside Elementary.

The training for the new teachers will continue through Thursday. District 91’s school year officially starts next Wednesday.
