Region 7 Republican Party barbecue

The Region 7 Republican Party held its annual summer barbecue Saturday evening and its guest speaker was U.S. Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming.

“Its a wonderful opportunity for Republicans to get together to talk about the things that unite us, which is a better future for our country — for our states,” Barrasso said. “As the senator from Wyoming, a Republican state, we have worked very hard to put on the president’s desk legislation that we think will help the economy. I will tell you, theses are pieces of legislation Barack Obama vetoed, Hillary Clinton would veto — Donald Trump will sign. And that’s why I support him for president.”

The 44th annual Region 7 event, which was held at Tautphaus Park, was attended by a number of Idaho elected officials. In addition, the general public also came out to meet the Idaho and federal elected officials who attended the barbecue.

The Republican Party is standing behind Trump and believes the Gem State will vote for him in the presidential election.

“The momentum for Mr. Trump is building. We’re organized in all 44 counties and we are rolling and trying to spread the word about the great policies of Mr. Trump. And highlight what we have not appreciated about the Obama administration and, what we call, the ‘Corrupt Clinton Machine.'” said Layne Bangerter, the Idaho state director for Trump for President.

Among those who attended, the two running for the Idaho Supreme Court, attorney Robyn Brody and state Sen. Curt McKenzie, came to meet the grassroots people and explain what they stand for.

“I think it’s important, more than anything, that we have justices on the court who are connected to the people that are affected by the decisions that are being made,” Brody said.

“I believe a justice should apply the constitutional statutes as they’re written. We should look to the original language and what people understood it to mean at the time that it was drafted, in order for us to know what the statute is or what the constitution says,” McKenzie said.

The election for Supreme Court Justice will be in November.
