Shoban Tribes extend support to North Dakota Tribes

The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes are extending their support this week to another tribe in North Dakota.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has filed a lawsuit in federal court to block the Army Corps of Engineers from building an oil pipeline under their reservation. No ruling has been made yet by the federal court, as it’s been a battle all day Wednesday in Washington D.C.

The pipeline plans to extend the transportation of oil across the country, and the Standing Rock Tribes say it can be potentially hazardous to their water supply if it ever breaks.

There are many people – tribal and non-tribal that have been protesting on the construction site in North Dakota, hoping to encourage the ban of this pipeline.

“One group took one of our tribal flags to show our tribes are offering their support to objections to this pipeline. It’s based primarily on the safety of the people and environment,” said Blaine Edmo, Council Chairman of the Tribes.

“This is huge. We can’t allow this to happen. So, we’re looking for everyone’s support to definitely post on Facebook, post on Twitter and Instagram. Do anything you can, and we’d certainly love to see your support,” said Randy’L Teton, Public Affairs, Tribes.

The ruling will be made on September 9th in Washington D.C.
If the Standing Rock Tribes or Corps of Engineers are unhappy with the decision, Judge James E. Boarsberg says an appeal hearing has been set for September 14th.
