A Utah junior high student says an armed 15-year-old boy entered a science classroom and fired a shot into the ceiling before a woman grabbed the shotgun he held, threw it down and pulled him into a hallway.
Student Dan Fowers said Thursday he was in the classroom at Mueller Park Junior High in Bountiful when the student burst in shortly after class started.
Fowers says the boy fired a shot shortly before the woman grabbed the gun and told him to stop.
Police say no one was injured after the boy’s parents intervened in the incident.
They have not released the boy’s identity or details about why he brought two guns to school.
11:40 a.m.
Utah police say a 15-year-old boy brought a shotgun and handgun to his junior high school and fired at least one found before his own parents confronted him in a hallway and took the weapons away.
Bountiful Police Chief Tom Ross told reporters Thursday that the weapons belonged to the family and the parents noticed they were missing and were concerned about their son.
Ross did not have details about which weapon fired or how close anyone else was when the gun went off. No one was injured.
Police are still trying to determine the student’s motivation and whether he intentionally fired the weapon or if it went off while his parents were trying to take them away.
Their identities have not been released.

Utah police say the parents of a 15-year-old boy disarmed their own son in the hallway after he brought two of the family’s weapons to his junior high school and fired a round into the ceiling.
Bountiful Police Chief Tom Ross told reporters Thursday that the parents were concerned about their 9th-grade son and noticed the weapons were missing that morning. They then went to the school. Ross says both parents found the student in a hallway, disarmed him and held him until a police officer near the school arrived and took him into custody.
Ross says the student fired at least one round, but no one was hurt. He did not know how close other students were at the time.
Police and school officials had no immediate details about the student’s motivation or the identity of the family.

A school district spokesman says a student who fired a shot into the ceiling of a Utah middle school Thursday morning is still inside the school being questioned by police.
Davis School District spokesman Chris Williams told KSL-TV that he had had no details about the student’s identity or whether the student had any history of trouble or incidents at Mueller Park Junior High in Bountiful.
Bountiful police say no one was injured and a parent disarmed the student.
Lt. Dave Edwards says investigators are still trying to determine if the student intentionally fired the gun or if it fired accidently while the parent intervened.
Police recovered two guns from the student.
Edwards did not have immediate details about why the student had the guns or how the parent encountered the student in the school.

Bountiful Police Lt. Dave Edwards says no one was injured and police are still trying to determine if the student intentionally fired the gun inside Mueller Park Junior High in Bountiful or if the gun accidently went off while the parent was disarming the student.
Edwards say the parent managed to detain the student until a police officer down the street arrived and took custody of the student.
Police recovered two guns from the student.
Edwards did not have details about why the student had guns or how the parent encountered the student in the school. The identities of the parent and student and whether they knew each other were not immediately available.

Officials say no one is injured after a student fired a gun into the ceiling of a northern Utah junior high.
Davis School District spokesman Chris Williams says a student fired some kind of gun inside Mueller Park Junior High in Bountiful on Thursday morning. Williams says no one was injured and the student is in custody.
He had no immediate details about the student’s age, why the student had a gun or where in the school the shooting took place.
Messages left with the Bountiful City police and Davis County Sheriff’s Office were not immediately returned.
Bountiful is 11 miles north of Salt Lake City.
