Idaho population growth ranked 3rd in the nation
Utah’s population exceeded 3 million as it became the nation’s fastest growing state between mid-2015 and mid-2016. With a 2 percent growth rate, Utah was followed by Nevada, Idaho, Florida, Washington, Oregon, and Colorado.
Eight states, including Wyoming, lost population during the period.
According to the Idaho Department of Labor, Idaho’s population grew by 1.8 percent, which is 1.1 percent ahead of the national growth rate. The state’s population was estimated at 1,683,140 in mid-2016.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the state’s population was 1,683,140 as of July 1, 2016, an estimated increase of more than 30,300.
It was the strongest growth since 2008 when Idaho’s population grew by 1.9 percent or 29,200 people.
According to the Idaho Department of Labor, Idaho’s population growth is attributed to a high birth rate and domestic migration, which accounted for 90 percent of the state’s population growth.
Nearly 19,000 people moved from other states and countries. Idaho ranked fifth in the country for in-migration.
The state’s birth rate was 13.78 births per thousand women, the seventh highest in the nation.
