WYDOT continues to battle snow slides

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) said snow slide activity continued through Thursday night. Multiple slides, caused by sustaining warm temperatures and precipitation, were reported in both the Snake River Canyon and Hoback Canyon. WYDOT crews worked into the early morning and report they could be ready to open both canyon roads sometime Friday. The Snake River Canyon is tentatively expected to open around 10 a.m., barring any further avalanche activity. The Hoback Canyon is tentatively expected to open around noon Friday, under the same condition. Teton Pass is still closed and will remain closed until Saturday. “We are not out of the clear yet, but we are doing our best to get those canyons open,” WYDOT Maintenance Foreman Bruce Daigle said. The Jackson area is still under an avalanche warning, winter weather advisory and flood advisory until 3 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Avalanche danger is “extremely high”, but weather conditions are forecast to improve today with decreasing temperatures, winds, and rain. Improving conditions should help stabilize snowpack and decrease avalanche activity. Up to the minute information is available here.
