Thursday evening snow, cold weekend ahead
Our quick moving storm system could drop a few inches of snow in the Snake River Plain and surrounding areas Overnight into early Friday. Behind this system, we'll have some areas of fog throughout the Snake River Plain, snow flurries and cold temperatures into the 20's for highs.
OVERNIGHT: Scattered snow showers with lows around 15°. Winds at 5-10 MPH, with gusts around 15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Chance of snow in the morning for the Plain with scattered snow showers for areas close to and in Western Wyoming. Partly sunny in the afternoon, with highs close to 30°.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY: Partly cloudy with areas of fog for the Snake River Plain. Highs in the mid 20's for Idaho Falls, with highs closer to 30° for Pocatello.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 AM MST FRIDAY:
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches. Wind gusts up to around 20 to 25 mph, mainly for mountain ridges.
* WHERE...Big Hole mtns, Pine Creek pass, Victor, Ashton, Island Park (higher amounts along Wyoming border), Botts, Lava Hot Springs, Soda Springs, Wayan, Emigration pass, Georgetown summit, Chesterfield, Portneuf Range, Bannock Range, Deep Creek mtn, Scout mtns, Fish Creek summit.
* WHEN...From 5 PM this afternoon to 5 AM MST Friday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening and morning commute. Blowing and drifting of snow is possible, especially up high.
