ISU to hold eclipse workshop for high school teachers

Idaho State University will be holding an eclipse workshop for middle and high school teachers in Idaho. This comes after ISU received a $110,000 grant from the Idaho State Department of Education Math and Science Partnership Program.

The goal of the workshop is to provide teachers with resources and student engagement ideas related to the eclipse happening on August 21st. Teachers who have been selected to attend the workshop will learn subjects related to physical and earth science. A portion of the workshop will also focus on data collection for the eclipse, and lesson plan ideas.

“The idea is to draw on something that is frankly a once in a lifetime experience [the 2017 eclipse] and turn that into an educational opportunity, beyond what viewing would provide,” commented Dr. Steve Shropshire, a professor at ISU.

If you are a teacher in Idaho and are interested in attending the workshop on July 10th-13th, applications are due by June 16th.

To apply, contact Dr. Steve Shropshire at shrostev@isu.edu or 208-282-2212.

About 50 teachers will be selected to participate.
