Jackson south highway project starts Monday

Commuters may see delays as work on the Jackson South Highway Project gets underway next Monday. Wadsworth Brothers Construction Company and WYDOT have worked out schedules to improve the US 26/89/189/191 corridor south of Jackson. The work will include added lanes, bridge replacements, wildlife connectivity underpasses and fencing, and a pedestrian/bicycle pathway. “People are going to see a lot of work going on this summer,” said Resident Engineer Bob Hammond. “They have a very aggressive schedule.” Beginning next week the work will include re-striping and narrower lanes. In some areas, turning lanes will be temporarily removed, but crews will maintain two-way traffic. WYDOT said two lanes of traffic will be open during commuter hours but is advising travelers to be prepared for potential delays. Wadsworth Brothers Construction was awarded a two-year, $33,307,313.70 contract on April 20, 2017. The work is required to be completed by June 30, 2019. Wadsworth hopes to have it done by fall of 2018. The Jackson South Project is broken into two parts, the North Section from mileposts 145-149, which is near the WYDOT shop, to South Park Loop Road by Melody Ranch. Work will include new pavement, widening, added lanes, turnouts, pathways and landscaping, bridge work, as well as various other improvements. That project is currently underway. The second half of the Jackson South project, the South Section from mileposts 141 to 145, is near the Hoback Junction to the WYDOT shop.
