INL wins “excellent” report card

Fiscal Year 2017 was a good one for the Idaho National Laboratory.

In a memo to employees, INL Laboratory Director Dr. Mark Peters reported the Department of Energy’s INL performance evaluation indicated that INL “exceeded almost all of the significant award fee goals and objectives.” INL was given a final grade of “A” and the rating of “Excellent.” As a result, the laboratory earned 97 percent of the total available fee.

DOE officials were particularly pleased with INL’s role in working to revive, revitalize, and expand nuclear energy options.

“The communities are very proud of what the Idaho national Lab is doing,” Juan Alvarez, Chief Operator Officer, said. “Its not just a jewel here in Idaho Falls or the state of Idaho. It is a jewel in the nation and can have a significant impact across the nation and even internationally.”

The department also outlined areas needing improvement, including safety and work planning and execution.

“It is very gratifying to see our hard work recognized once again,” said Peters. “I’m grateful to each of you. For your dedication and determination in accomplishing our important mission. This is why our nation looks to us to resolve its big energy and security challenges.”
