DMV computer issues corrected, full service to counties

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has corrected the issues with its driver’s license computer system and restored full service to county offices.

ITD, working with its card issuing vendor Gemalto, enhanced its servers and made adjustments to its databases to correct the process throttling seen in the last two weeks.

Officials report these fixes have corrected the problem and processing speeds are faster than before the issues arose.

“These recent issues are unacceptable. I deeply apologize,” said DMV Administrator Alberto Gonzalez. “We are taking steps so that something like this is prevented in the future.”

If you delayed getting a license renewed during the outage, officials encourage you visit your county DMV office for service and keep in mind, there may be long lines.

Authorities said these outages did not have any impact on the department’s planned launch of the Star Card – Idaho’s REAL ID. These optional driver’s license or ID cards will be available to the public starting January 2, 2018.
