House fire destroys home, causes $200,000 worth of damages
Central Fire District’s Rigby, Ririe, Lewisville and Menan stations were called out to 112 N. 4100 E. to a report of a house on fire at 5:07 a.m. Wednesday.
First responders on scene reported the garage and main level of house were totally engulfed.
Officials said there was some confusion as to whether there were any occupants inside the structure, but after further investigation, it was determined no one inside the house.
The lone occupant of the home was not injured in the fire and had exited the house before CFDs arrival.
CFD firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, which was extremely hot and had spread throughout the split level house.
Officials said two cars in the garage were engaged in the flames, and the main floor of the house was a total loss.
There was fire, heat and smoke damage to the upper level of the home and smoke and water damage to the basement of the home.
Total loss value is approximately $200,000.
Authorities determined the fire started outside on the back deck, but the official cause of the fire is under investigation.
Central Fire would like to remind all those that have wood burning stoves to remove coals and ashes to a safe location away from the house and any combustibles.
