Fire destroys home near Wilson

Fire destroyed a home off of Fall Creek Road south of Wilson, Wyoming Christmas Eve. The family was able to safely escape.

Jackson Hole Fire/EMS was called to the fire at 5:32 p.m. Sunday to a report of smoke coming from the floor vents. Crews entered the crawl space of the home as soon as they arrived and found heavy smoke.

Efforts to locate the seat of the fire ended when the a floor collapsed. Fire then found its way into walls and burned blown-in insulation within the floor and wall spaces.

Firefighters from Jackson, Adams Canyon, Hoback, Moran, Wilson and the Wilson Pines fire stations worked through Christmas Eve and into Christmas morning.

“Crews worked hard and long hours through the night and morning in cold, wet, and icy conditions,” commented Incident Commander and Battalion Chief Fire Marshal Kathy Clay. “Everyone did their very best to try to stop this deep seated fire.”

Clay said it was difficult to determine the cause of the fire, but she believes it started in the crawl space.

One firefighter strained his hand opening frozen links to fire hose, but there were no other reported injuries.

Fire crews remained on the scene until late into Christmas day afternoon.
