IF High School shelter in place lifted

UPDATE 3:00 p.m.: Idaho Falls Police reports the shelter in place has been lifted.

Officers said they couldn’t verify any evidence to substantiate the threat.

Three patrol cars will remain at the school as students are released for the day.

“We will do whatever it takes to make sure students are safe,” said Lieutenant Steven Poulter.

Idaho Falls Police directed Idaho Falls High School to go into “shelter in place” status after a report of two men with pistols in hand in the area of Idaho Falls High School.

The school was advised to lock its doors. IFPD reports the outside doors are locked, classrooms have shut and locked their doors and classes are continuing.

Officers searched every classroom and hallway inside the high school.

IFPD has four or five units on every side of the school.

At around 1:55 p.m. a female caller told police dispatch she had seen two Hispanic men with pistols in hand near the high school.

Police also recommended that neighbors around the school also lock their doors.

Idaho State Police is assisting IFPD with patrolling a 1 to 1.5 mile radius of local streets around the school.
