Elementary student gives prize bike to a friend

One local boy’s act of kindness left his school in tears. After biking to school every day, Evan Jones was one of 130 names in the drawing for the bike to school contest.

“And I said, oh I’m probably not going to win it, there are so many kids in the school,” says Jones.

But Evan did win and instead of keeping his prize he decided to give it to his friend and neighbor, Nick.

“He rides his sister’s bike and he has to get it on the curb and jump on. So I was like, maybe he should get a bike his own size.”

Nick is currently in Utah at Primary Children’s Hospital after a tragedy.

“I heard a banging on the door and it was the daughter of our next door neighbors, saying her brother had just fallen out of a window. So we ran and went to his aid and were able to get 911 and emergency services out there right away,” says Brian Jones, Evan’s dad who was the first to respond to the incident.

Evan’s act of kindness touched so many people. He was given a bike from East Idaho Credit Union since he gave away his prize.

His selfless act encouraged many, including his family.

“It’s amazing to think he worked so hard, riding his bike to school every day to be in this contest and the chances of winning it, to immediately think of sharing that with his friend, it’s touching and he’s a great example to me,” says Brian Jones.

Nick is currently recovering in the hospital. If you would like to donate to help him and his family you can follow this link.
