ITD launches traffic analysis and interactive website

The Idaho Transportation Department is currently evaluating the stretch of US-30 between the intersection of Garrett Way/Gould and the intersection of Yellowstone/Oak Street, and has launched a new website, www.yellowstonetogarrett.com

ITD wants to make it easy and convenient for the public to provide feedback on this important area of Pocatello and wants the public to give input, which will be accepted until June 22.

Andrea Sheppard, the planning engineer for ITD in southeast Idaho, says “The travel corridor between Garrett Way/Gould and Yellowstone/Oak is an important connection for the traveling public in Pocatello, and we are starting to see more and more accidents in this area.”

She adds that the traffic data they currently have is a good starting point, but it is important for the department to get feedback from the public on this section of roadway.

Anyone can use the website to identify areas where they are concerned about congestion, safety, bicycle travel, pedestrian travel, transit access or other concerns they may have with the transportation system in this buys part of Pocatello.

By placing feedback directly onto the web-based map, the public can play a vital role in helping ITD identify issues and shape future improvements for this section of roadway.

ITD does not currently have any scheduled projects or funding for this portion of highway.

This traffic study will evaluate current traffic conditions, future projected conditions and public feedback to develop some potential improvements for the roadway. This advanced planning will give the department the opportunity to apply for available safety funding to make improvements to the area sooner rather than later.
