Idaho man sentenced to prison on federal gun charges

A 36-year-old southwestern Idaho man has been sentenced to seven years, eight months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Raul Efrain Lopez Jr. of Nampa received the sentence Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Boise.

Authorities say police stopped Lopez in November 2017 and arrested him on an outstanding warrant. Police searched the vehicle and found a shotgun, three rifles, a handgun and ammunition.

Lopez had a felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance and is prohibited from possessing firearms.

A federal grand jury indicted Lopez in January, and in April he pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm.
