Grizzly bear captured in Island Park

Idaho Department of Fish and Game officials captured a subadult, male grizzly bear from the Mill Creek Campground in Island Park Wednesday after multiple reports of a bear in or close to the campground and nearby subdivision.

Officials said the bear appeared to have lost some of its natural fear of humans. This is referred to as habituation.

IDFG sedated, tagged and fitted the bear with a GPS collar and then transported it to a remote portion of the Caribou-Targhee National forest near Snow Creek Butte.

Officials say the relocation may help the bear be more wary of humans in the future.

IDFG will continued to monitor the bear.
