101 dogs found abandoned during Utah fire evacuations

Eastern Utah animal shelters have taken in 101 dogs that were found abandoned in a Duchesne County home during fire evacuations.

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office says local residents found the dogs while they were helping remove pets left behind in homes during evacuations earlier this month.

KSL-TV reported Thursday the owner left the dogs in his elderly father care after he died, but the father was unable to take care of them properly.

The father had already evacuated his home when residents found the dogs.

The dogs are being cared for by the Roosevelt Animal Shelter and the Furever Buddy’s Dog Rescue in Roosevelt.

Roosevelt Animal Shelter Assistant Director Janet Alberts says a few required medical attention, but none had rabies.

She says some are being fostered by families.
