Toddlers survive alone for days after car wreck kills mother
A car accident claimed the life of a young mother, but her two children managed to survive.
The vehicle found Monday in a ravine just off Arkansas Highway 24 in Camden.
After one of the kids, just three-years-old, was spotted walking along the roadway.
At a quarter to 1 p.m., the Ouachita County Sheriff’s Office discovered death, destruction and a miracle.
“A female driver was found deceased ejected from the vehicle and there was also a one-year-old was in inside the vehicle that was still alive,” said Detective Nathan Greeley/Ouachita County Sheriff’s Office.
That female driver identified as 25-year-old Lisa Holliman of Camden. Authorities discovered Holliman’s one-year-old still strapped in this car seat wide awake.
Earlier, the three-year-old sibling made it out of the mangled vehicle, bearing scratches and cuts throughout his body. He climbed his way out of the deep ravine, later found wandering near Harvey’s Grocery Store.
Law enforcement responded to reports of the unattended toddler, caring for the boy until family could recognize the child and name the mother who hadn’t been seen in days.
“Today is anything but short of a miracle,” said Greeley. “The three-year-old and the one-year-old being able to survive in the elements you know southern Arkansas with how hot it is the humidity we’ve have precipitation since then and like I said it’s nothing short of a miracle god’s blessing that these children were able to survive this accident.”
