Police: Body of 1-year-old found after being swept away in floodwaters
The body of a North Carolina infant who went missing in floodwaters was recovered Monday bringing the death toll from Florence to 20 in the Carolinas.
Officials say one-year-old Kaiden Lee-Welch was swept away by rushing waters Saturday night in Union County.
The Union County Sheriff Department believes his mother drove around road barricades with Kaiden in the vehicle.
The fast-moving floodwater from Richardson Creek moved her car off the road.
According to authorities, the mother was able to free herself and Kaiden, but she lost him in the water.
The mother was rescued and taken to a hospital.
