Shelley hosts 90th annual Spud Day

Potato lovers mashed together Saturday in Shelley for the 90th annual Spud Days.

The day started off with a 5K and parade. Families lined the streets, getting high fives from the potato mascot. Kids ran to get some candy…and potatoes. Saturday is the end of the three-day Spud Days celebration which included a Miss Russett competition, several events and of course lots of potatoes, which is what families say they come for.

“Potatoe-y, I see lots of potatoes. There’s tons of people which is very surprising to me,” said Lizzy Ricks, who was attending the parade with family.

“I’m really excited for the baked potato. I remember when I came last time they were really yummy and like really moist and everything cuz usually the baked potatoes we have are really dry, but these ones were really good,” said Chelsee Berret, also attending the parade with family.

Some other fun Spud Days events included the potato picking contest and the spud tug.
