Ear Spring spouts non-native stuff
When Ear Spring, in the Upper Geyser Basin, suddenly erupted for the first time in decades on September 15, Yellowstone National Park officials found a wide variety of “stuff” around the vent.
The eruption kicked out a variety of foreign objects, some of them even historic. Items ranged from coins to hats and even a baby’s binky.
Officials said they would all be inventoried by curators and that some items could end up in the Yellowstone archives.
The park is quick to point out that foreign objects can damage hot springs and geysers. They hope the next eruption of Ear Spring will include nothing but rocks and water.
