Outdoor ice ribbon open in Idaho Falls
Idaho Falls newest outdoor attraction is officially up and running.
The ice ribbon in Tautphaus Park opened a couple weeks ago. It is free for the public. If you do need to rent skates, you can do so at the ice arena right next door. Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation works to keep the ice in good condition even if temperatures warm up.
“We try to run a lot of water when we get opportunities, when the air temperature is really low and we can build a good base on it,” said Lyon Johnson, assistant superintendent for Idaho Falls Parks and Rec. “We can really make the ice great. And then brother nature comes and he just ruins the top surface and we get a lot of water and it gets a little mushy, but fortunately we get a couple cold nights and we’re right back into business.”
The ice ribbon is open each night until the lights go off each night.
