Fire in Pocatello destroys garage

A fire broke out Tuesday night on the 100 block of McKinley Avenue around 9 p.m., causing minor fire damage to the home and significant fire damage to the garage.

According to Kim Stouse of the Pocatello Fire Department, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“They are leaning towards, that the fire started in a garbage can and there was some combustible materials, along with some fuels, in the trash can,” Stouse said.

“So when you bring those two items together, you have the perfect system for a fire,” Stouse explained.

There were no human injuries, but a few fish in the garage perished.

There were reports that people heard explosions coming from the area, which Stouse said came from mortars the tenants had in the garage.
