Bingham County GOP picks nominees

The Bingham County Republican Central Committee will submit nominations for two vacant positions to the County Commission for its consideration. The committee met Thursday night to make its recommendations.

Local attorney Paul Rogers was nominated to become the next county prosecutor. Prosecutor Cleve Colson was selected to become the county’s next Magistrate Judge. Rogers has served as his Chief Deputy. Rogers was the only person to apply for the nomination.

County Coroner Mike Gardner is retiring this month.

The Central Committee nominated Kirk Nelson, Nick Herschi, and Debra Wright to be his successor. Nelson is a retired Pocatello Police Detective. Herschi has formerly served as deputy Bingham County Coroner for eight years, and Debra Wright has been the county’s Chief Deputy Coroner for the past year.

The county commission will make the final selections to fill the remaining terms of Colson and Gardner.
