FLU season underway resulting in high numbers at PMC

Flu is officially underway and the outbreak is spreading quickly. School shutdowns are happening in 12 states across the country, including Idaho. Our region is already feeling its impact.

Portneuf Medical Center has already seen 49 people test positive for the flu this year; 26 of those were children who are the most vulnerable. CDC says the flu is most dangerous to children under 5-years-old.

Merillee Wells, Emergency Room Doctors says, “Non-response to tylonal and ibuprofen for your pediatric population. High fevers. If you’re getting into the 102, 103 that you can’t bring down that’s immediate to be seen by a physician, don’t let those symptoms prolong.”

Health professionals are still urging people to get a flu shot.
