Senate Education Committee makes funding formula public before any hearings
In a rare move, state lawmakers have made a bill that affects every child, educator, and school in Idaho public even before it has been printed for a hearing.
For the last three years, a committee has worked to figure out a fair way to redistribute money to school districts.
The current funding formula hasn’t been updated in 25 years.
Under the new formula, districts would get money based on enrollment rather than attendance, which means some districts will end up with fewer dollars.
Because it is an issue that affects so many people is why the Senate Education committee decided to make the bill public before introducing it.
