ISU offering free legal clinic for service members and veterans

Idaho State University is offering a free legal clinic for service members and veterans on the third Wednesday of each month.

The clinic gives veterans and service members a chance to speak to attorneys for legal advice on everything from legal definitions to details on drafting a will.

ISU’s Director of veteran student affairs, Todd Johnson, explained why this clinic is so valuable.

“It really does just help give them some clarity. Sometimes, legal issues are just a matter of being able to ask the right person the right question,” Johnson said. “You can save yourself a lot of time and hassle and so it’s a really great service.”

Johnson said that one of the biggest aspects of the clinic is its pro bono nature.

“To have a lawyer on retainer, you’re initially looking at hundreds of dollars, if not thousands of dollars,” he said. “To be able to ask a question and they care about your success, without the bottom line money being involved, there’s a tremendous benefit.”

The clinic is held at the Veterans Sanctuary on the third floor of the Pond Student Union.
