Five to be honored in Ag Hall of Fame Banquet
Directors have announced five industry leaders will be inducted into the 47th Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame.
The inductees will be honored during a recognition dinner March 22 at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Event Center in Fort Hall.
The five include:
Carol Guthrie of Inkom. A member of the Idaho Ag in the Classroom Association for over 18 years, she is a recognized advocate for agricultural literacy.
Jean Schweider of Iona is a partner in a large farm and ranch organization, including 250 head of cattle on 2,200 acres of farm and ranch ground. She was named Farm Woman of the Year in 2012.
Carl Lufkin of Salmon was raised in the Rigby area, his family ultimately settled in the Salmon area. He has served on the Leadore school board and for two years as president of the Idaho Cattle Association.
Veterinarian Dr. Kleal Hill, of Arco, established the Lost River Veterinary Clinic in 1978. Although he avoids the limelight, Hill has been honored by both the Butte and Custer County FFA Chapters for providing education on animal husbandry and reproduction.
And, LaVar Newman of Monteview built a small business on rented ground into an 8,000-plus acre farm and livestock operation. Newman has served on the Federal Land Bank Committee and was recently recognized by Idaho Ag Credit.
In addition to the new inductees, MaCoy Ward of Dubois will be presented the Ed Duren Memorial Young Producer Award at the event.
