Flood Watch issued through weekend
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch, beginning early Friday morning and lasting through Sunday afternoon.
FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT MDT TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY
AFTERNOON…
The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a
* Flood Watch for a portion of southeast Idaho, including the
following areas, Blackfoot Mountains, Franklin/Eastern Oneida
Region, Marsh and Arbon Highlands, and Raft River Region.
* From midnight MDT tonight through Sunday afternoon
* Warm temperatures over the last week have led to some snowmelt
below about 6500 feet. Multiple rounds of rain showers below
6500 feet and warm temperatures through the weekend will
accelerate the ongoing snow melt. This will lead to areas of
water ponding in low lying areas. Additionally, small stream may
reach bankful and possibly exit their banks.
* Water may encroach onto roads and storm drains may become
blocked causing ponding/flooding in low-lying areas.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
