Yellowstone National Park opens for spring
The first select roads and services opened for the season in Yellowstone National Park Friday. Entrance fees will be waived on Saturday.
The only open roads will be the West Entrance to Old Faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful via Norris, Norris to Canyon Village, and at the North Entrance to Mammoth Hot Springs to the Northeast Entrance.
The opening day featured a surprise eruption of the Beehive Geyser.
Park officials advise that road conditions can change quickly. The springtime experience at Yellowstone means fewer crowds, lower elevation hiking, and skiing or snow-shoeing at higher elevations. Wildlife viewing includes bison calving, recently emerged bears, bull elk antlers in velvet and arrival of migratory birds.
