Jackson Chabad to host candle lighting
As part of a worldwide observation of unity, the Chabad Jewish Center of Wyoming is inviting local Jews and the community to join a candle lighting and solidarity Shabbat prayer service Friday night.
The Chabad is encouraging women and girls to #LightForLori in honor of Lori Kay, who was murdered in the Poway Chabad Synagogue shooting on the last day of Passover last weekend. They are encouraged to light candles before sunset.
“The gunman wanted Jews to cower in fear, leaving synagogues empty,” said Raizy Mendelsohn, co-director of the Chabad Jewish Center of Wyoming. “Let’s fill up Jackson’s Chabad Jewish Center and synagogues to show that we will never back down in the face of hatred.”
“Cold-blooded, fanatical hatred can only be uprooted by filling our world with pure, undiscriminating love and acts of kindness,” said Rabbi Zalman Mendelsohn of the Chabad Jewish Center in Jackson.
After the Friday night ceremony, the Chabad will host a community Shabbat dinner. Those interested should RSVP by calling 1-307-462-0847 or by e-mail at info@jewishwyoming.com.
