“We did this one year, it was twelve thousand people, this year we’re anticipating somewhere between four and five thousand people,” said event organizer, Brett Mackert.

64 years ago today, the city of St. Anthony began a historic tradition, the Fisherman’s Breakfast.

“It started off with a cup of coffee and then it was a donut with a cup of coffee and it’s mushroomed into what we have today.”

St. Anthony is a stopping point for those heading up the highway to the popular fishing country of Fremont County, the annual breakfast kicks off the fishing season and reminds all of the kind community.

“The community gathers together and it’s such big support for everyone and the food is always good even though you have to stand in line for a while, but it’s always worth it,” said St. Anthony resident, Blaze Eckman.

Every task that is necessary to pull off such a large breakfast and feed thousands of people is important, but being eligible to make the pancake batter, is not an easy thing.

” It’s a family affair, in order to get into the batter here, you had to marry into the family and serve a five-year apprentice so that you can get the secret recipe,” said pancake batter maker, Mitch Bingham.

Throughout the years, nothing has ever stopped the Breakfast, not even the weather.

“Years ago, it snowed so bad that some of the gals were taking snow shovels and shoveling off the tables,” said Harry Halkar.

It’s a tradition that impacts the community and shows what St. Anthony stands for.

“I think it’s great, it brings a lot of people into the community, it lets people know what our community is all about, a great opportunity for people to see what St. Anthony is,” said Fremont County Sheriff Len Humphries.

“It’s my favorite thing to do, in the whole year is just helping these people.”
