26th Annual State Geography Bee

REXBURG, Idaho (KIFI) - The 26th annual state Geography bee at BYU-Idaho Friday. Students from all over the state came to participate. After preliminary rounds, the final competition was among ten elementary and middle school students.

The first round of questions were simple ones without any contestant elimination. As the questions became increasingly challenging, eliminations happened quickly.

The championship round was between two eight graders, Michael Radley and last year's winner Amrit Singh.

Parents were equally as nervous as their kids during the final round.

"I thought I was going to get out a long time ago," said Radley.

"That was so nerve wracking, the tiebreaker, cause it's single elimination," said Singh.

"What is the name for the underground tunnel system invented in ancient Persia to carry water from mountain springs to low land arid agriculture areas?" Asked the moderator.

"Vessel," said Radley.

"Aqueduct," said Singh.

Aqueduct was the correct answer, and Singh won his second and last state level geography bee. His prize included $100 and an all expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C for the national competition in May.

Singh is from Grangeville, Idaho.
