116th Has New Commander

The largest military unit in the Idaho Army National Guard has a new commander.

Col. Don Blunck took command of the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team during a special ceremony Sunday at Boise’s Gowen Field.

Blunck is from Meridian, Idaho. He replaces Col. Guy Thomas, who recently led the brigade on a year-long deployment to Iraq.

Blunck told the Idaho Statesman that his first priority is to help soldiers who spent months in Iraq reintegrate into their daily lives.

The 116th is composed of about 4,500 soldiers in Idaho, Oregon and Montana.
