Girl Attempts JCC Escape

A 13 and a half year old female juvenile experienced about 15 minutes of cold, wet freedom Thursday after attempting to run away from an Idaho Juvenile Corrections Center staffer. JCC Superintendent Skip Greene says the girl was walking with an escort after a visit to a St. Anthony eye doctor when she bolted and ran away.

The un-named girl attempted to escape by jumping into the icy Henry’s Fork of the Snake River at Keefer Memorial Park at around 2:30 pm. Greene says her nurse gave chase while contacting staff at the nearby Center. Additional staff employees raced into St. Anthony and helped the girl out of waist-high water within 15 minutes. He says neither she nor staff members were seriously hurt.

The girl was originally sent to the Juvenile Corrections Center for substance abuse violations, Greene stated.
