Idaho Businesses Push Lawmakers To Lower Taxes
One of Idaho’s most powerful lobbying groups is again pushing to eliminate the state’s personal property tax on business equipment.
The Idaho Statesman (http://bit.ly/ylcfPK) reports the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry’s economic impact study of the tax will be presented to the Idaho Senate’s Taxation and Local Government Committee on Tuesday. The association claims the administrative burden of the tax dampens business expansion and jobs creation.
But it won’t get to discuss the study before the committee just yet. Committee chairman Sen. Tim Corder, R-Mountain Home, has lined up economists to critique the association’s study and claims. He says there’s no guarantee businesses would use any money saved to create new jobs.
The tax raises $130 million a year for counties and other taxing districts.
