Teton County, Wyo., Heads 2 Search And Rescue Efforts
Teton County, Wyoming Search and Rescue teams were engaged in two simultaneous missions Thursday.
The Teton County Sherif’fs Office says the first call came in at 2:40 p.m.from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort ski patrol. They reported a woman was injured and in need of assistance in the Four Pines area, out of bounds of the ski area’s boundaries.
Searchers used the victim’s cell phone’s Global Positioning System to locate her. She was identified as 59-year-old Edie Asrow of Jackson. Asrow told rescuers she was caught in an avalanche and slid about 200 feet, losing her skis. Hampered by poor visibility Search and Rescue personnel reached her by snowmobile at around 6:35 p.m.and transported to an incident command post at 8:54 p.m. Asrow was treated by an emergency medical services unit and released.
A second Search and Rescue team was dispatched at 3:41 p.m., when Kalin Smith, 21, of Jackson reported he got stuck while snowmobiling at the junction of Cache and Game Creek. Smith said he had tried to dig his machine free for one and a half hours before he began walking back to a trailhead. He called for help after he became fatigued.
A team of three Search and Rescue personnel reached Smith at the trailhead at 6:34 p.m. and transported him out of the area.
