Sexual Abuse Case Against Ex-Principal To Be Partially Unsealed
Parts of the sexual abuse case against a former junior high school principal will be unsealed.
Christopher Cox, 38, who recently resigned from his post at Snake River Junior High School, appeared for preliminary hearing before 7th District Magistrate Judge Charles Roos in Blackfoot on Thursday.
Cox was charged Feb. 16 with three felony counts of sexual abuse with a child under the age of 16.
Cox?s preliminary hearing was continued to March 22.
The hearing focused on a request filed by a regional newspaper to “unseal” the case. Bingham County Prosecutor Scott Andrew had filed an amended motion to seal the “facts of the case.” Deputy Prosecutor Randy Smith said the intent of the move was to ensure a fair jury.
Roos’ order will unseal the case, except for things that might identify the alleged victim, the victim’s family or agencies participating in the investigation.
