Perfect Time To SkySki
A group of sky skiers hit the Snake River earlier today, thanks to the sunshine and warm temperatures. These water athletes say sky skiing is like a combination of water skiing and water boarding, but watching these guys in action will better describe it.
“You can ski in rougher water and do flips and get higher up in the air than you would be able to do on a wakeboard,” said Mark Buckmaster, a SkySkier.
Avid sky skier, Mark Buckmaster, says while the prime time to sky ski is in the summer, this spring’s warmer temperatures allow him to practice and prepare for the summer months.
“This is a pretty exciting sport,” said Buckmaster. “It’s a little early in the year and the water is a little cold, but we like to get out early and get our muscles used to it so we can be in prime form during the season.”
As a sky skiing instructor, Buckmaster says he’s taught the sport to nearly everyone–from young children to adults.
“I’ve taught a 70-year-old and I’ve taught an 11-year-old so it at least goes that age span….and all of them have a big grin on their face,” said Buckmaster. “Once they figure out the tricky start and after they get through that, it usually puts a big grin on their face.”
Buckmaster says only a handful of people in the local area sky-ski, but the sport is slowly catching on.
