Wyoming Partners With INL For Energy Analysis

The state of Wyoming is turning to the Idaho National Laboratory to study how its abundant energy resources can be better utilized.

Legislators recently signed off on the analysis, to be completed through a partnership between the Wyoming Business Council, INL and University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources.

Robert Cherry, the INL’s principal investigator on the project, said they’ll be looking at ways to use wind, fossil, and even nuclear, sources for a steady supply of electricity, as well as make synthetic fuel to replace petroleum imports.

The hope is to create more value and more jobs in the Cowboy State.

“I think this is a good example of what the INL is trying to do in becoming a regional resource for energy problems, to be able to provide an unbiased, expert look at options people might be able to pursue to improve their energy situation,” said Cherry.

The study will wrap up no later than March 2013.
