Teens’ Burglary Arrest Serves As Warning, Madison Sheriff Says
The Madison County Sheriff has some strong words of warning following the arrest of two teens accused of stealing prescription drugs from people’s homes.
Sheriff Roy Klingler said Brandt Edelmayer, 18, and a 17-year-old accomplice are lucky to be alive. An Archer man reportedly caught them from a distance, sneaking into his home.
“Especially in rural Idaho, it’s not real smart to be breaking into people’s homes,? Klingler said. ?A lot of our community is armed.”
This particular man was not armed, and neither were the intruders. Instead, he managed to get both teens to sit and wait until sheriff’s deputies arrived. Klingler says it wasn’t long before officers found prescription pain meds in the suspects’ getaway car, and that addresses on the bottles belonged to homes along the same street.
Klingler said Edelmayer had suffered a leg injury, so investigators don’t believe he and his friend were trying to sell the drugs.
“We believe he probably had some (prescription medications) previously and maybe was looking for some for himself,” Klingler said.
Neither teen is linked to any previous crimes. They’re both in custody, facing felony charges.
“We believe that they were not thinking real clear on this issue,” Klingler said. “Hopefully, our goal is that they will never do this again.?
Klingler said he hopes this case will serve as a cautionary tale for people to lock their doors.
