Main Street Buzz: Cupcake Ice Cream
Like most great ideas, this collaboration came out the simplest tasks — a weekly run for dairy at Reed’s Dairy Farm.
Alan Reed, President of Reed’s Dairy remembers the day it came to life.
“Cocoa bean came to us and they were interested in making an ice cream that had the same flavor as their cupcakes,” he said.
That’s right. Cupcakes. And ice cream.
Heidi Ricks, who works at the Cocoa Bean in Idaho Falls, said it’s the perfect combination.
“Our cupcakes mixed with their ice cream, it’s a great mix!”
It’s irresistible to even the biggest health nut, so from this idea the hard work began.
“They would come over at least once or twice a week to work on flavors,” said Reed.
And after five months of mixing, sampling and mixing again, they have reached perfection.
“We go through ice cream like crazy,” said Ricks.
In each batch there are 16 cupcakes mixed in by hand. But beyond the delicious combo, it’s all about keeping it local.
“We’re really grateful to the community and the support we receive so anything we can do within the community with other businesses just supports Idaho Falls,” said Reed.
“When you think of good ice cream in Idaho you think of Reeds Dairy and if you think of a good cupcakes, it’s the Cocoa Bean. We wanted the best of the best, so we used Reeds because they have the best ice cream,” said Ricks.
So when the cravings call, you no longer have to choose.
The cupcake ice cream is available at the Cocoa Bean stores in Idaho Falls and Rexburg.
